Der Strom

Language: German (Deutsch)

Mein Leben wälzt sich murrend fort;
Es steigt und fällt in krausen Wogen,
Hier bäumt es sich, jagt nieder dort,
In wilden Zügen, hohen Bogen.

Das stille Thal, das grüne Feld
Durchrauscht es nun mit leisem Beben,
Sich Ruh ersehnend, ruhige Welt,
Ergötzt es sich am ruhigen Leben.

Doch nimmer findend, was es sucht,
Und immer sehnend, tost es weiter,
Unmuthig rollt's auf steter Flucht,
Wird nimmer froh, wird nimmer heiter.

Il fiume

Language: Italian (Italiano) after the German (Deutsch)

Scorre la vita mia, con fragore, in avanti
E sale e scende in onde increspate,
qua si solleva, poi là sprofonda,
in slanci selvaggi, in alte arcate.

La valle silente, e i verdi campi
ella attraversa in dolce mormorio,
desiderosa di pace e di un mondo tranquillo,
sembra godere di una quieta esistenza.

Ma poiché non trova ciò di cui va in cerca,
e sempre ha brama, continua a infuriare,
senza entusiasmo e in fuga costante,
per sempre scontenta, e mai serena.
