Freundin! wankt, im Abendwinde,

Ruhelos in feuchter Luft,

Le son des cloches du soir résonnent
À travers le lourd parfum de la lande ;
Derrière les grilles du cimetière
Le carmin du crépuscule pâlit.

Des branches des tilleuls secouées par la tempête
Tombent les feuilles mortes,
Et les herbes blanchies se courbent
Sur sa propre tombe.

Chère amie ! Dans le vent du soir, tremblera
Bientôt aussi l'herbe sur ma tombe,
Les feuilles de son tilleul voltigeront
Sans fin dans l'air humide.

Quand ma place engazonnée est déjà ornée
Seulement par ta couronne fanée
Et que sur les vagues douces du Léthé
Mon image voilée est perdue :

Alors, écoute ! Dans le frémissement des fleurs
Le vent soufflera de manière perceptible :
De l'autre côté, toute tristesse disparaît ;
