Morgentau
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Still das [Sterngeläute]1 ist verklungen.
Leise heben sich die Dämmerungen,
rings verschüttet liegt der nächtige Wein,
glänzt als Tau auf Gräser hingegossen,
in die zarten Kelche eingeschlossen,
dringt er tief in jedes Wesen ein,
will sich bis in seine Wurzeln senken,
es mit bronnenkühlem Blute tränken,
dass es Tag und Licht erleiden mag:
Strahle nun, du lichter, junger Tag!

Morning dew
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The chiming of stars has quietly faded.
Softly the dawning day arises,
while the night's wine lies spilt all around,
gleaming as dew sprinkled on grass,
enclosed in the delicate calyxes,
it reaches deeply into each living plant,
wanting to go down to the roots
and steep it in blood as cool as a spring,
that it may endure the day and the light:
Shine forth now, o young, bright day!
