Es gingen drei Jäger wohl auf die Birsch,
sie wollten erjagen den weißen Hirsch.
Sie legten sich unter den Tannenbaum;
da hatten die drei einen seltsamen Traum.
Der erste:
"Mir hat geträumt, ich klopf auf den Busch,
da rauschte der Hirsch heraus, husch, husch!"
Der zweite:
"Und als er sprang mit der Hunde Geklaff,
da brannt ich ihn auf das Fell, piff, paff!"
Der dritte:
"Und als ich den Hirsch an der Erde sah,
da stieß ich lustig ins Horn, trara!"
So lagen sie da und sprachen, die drei,
da rannte der weiße Hirsch vorbei.
Und eh die Jäger ihn recht gesehen,
so war er davon über Tiefen und Höhn.
Husch, husch! piff, paff! trara!

Trois chasseurs étaient partis à la chasse,
Ils voulaient chasser le cerf blanc.
Ils s'allongèrent sous un sapin ;
Là ils firent tout trois un rêve étrange.
Le premier
« J'ai rêvé que je frappais les buissons,
Alors le cerf sortit dans un frémissement, hop, hop ! »
Le second
« Et alors qu'il sautait au milieu des jappement de chiens,
Je lui trouai la peau, pif, paf ! »
Le troisième
« Et quand je vis le cerf à terre,
Alors je soufflai joyeusement dans mon cor, taratata ! »
Ils étaient donc allongés là à parler tous les trois,
Quand le cerf blanc passa en courant.
Et avant même que les chasseurs l'aient bien vu,
Il s'était déjà éloigné par monts et par vaux.
Hop, hop ! pif, paf ! taratata !
