        Und Knospen schwellen,

En volg maar de vreugde die blij maakt en jong!
Verwelkom de lente met vrolijke dansen,
De winnaar die alles met liefde bedwong!
 
De winter bedreigt hem met koude en zuchten,
De zomer vervolgt hem met vlammende speer;
Hij echter zweeft onder lichtblauwe luchten
Zorgeloos lachend op geuren naar hier.
 
Zie de trouwe aarde
Met liefdesgebaren
IJlt hem al tegen,
En in haar bewegen
Zich duizend krachten, meest onbewust,
De boden van liefde, van heerlijke lust.
 
[Er kabbelen wellen
En knoppen zwellen,
Bloemen zie 'k trossen
En in de bossen
Zingt Philomela1 diep uit haar borst,
