Dag vol hemel! Toen uit Laura's ogen
Mij verrukking, liefde, opgetogen
In de vreugdedronken ziel doordrong!
En, door haar betoverd, ik intussen,
Bij de lieve, onder vurige kussen,
Aan de zoete bange boezem zonk!
 
Om de wolken zag ik goudener zomen,
Ieder blaadje aan de lentebomen
Scheen te fluist'ren: Eeuwig, eeuwig jij!
Zaliger, zo vol van zielsvervulling,
Zal ik, na 't verlies der aards' omhulling,
Haast in Edens mirtenbos niet zijn.
