Addio, mie care colline, addio, spiaggia silenziosa, dove su ali di gioia passavo il tempo beato! Addio, onde leggere, addio, flutti gentili, che attraversavo felice e con ardente fiamma d'amore. Come già fu per l'abbraccio materno è giunto il tempo della separazione, che oggi vede me in muto dolore prendere congedo da questi luoghi! Uguale è ora il tormento che serra forte il mio petto, le stesse sono le lacrime che qui sparge la malinconia. Mi piacerebbe tanto indugiare nel quieto bosco di faggi, dividere con gli uccelli canori le gioie e le pene del cuore! Vorrei essere cullato dalle onde, vorrei vagare per i campi, attingere acqua di fonte, in seno alla Natura! Vorrei raccontare a ogni fiore quanto è duro il mio partire, e levare un lamento ai monti perché è difficile dire loro addio, ma una vigorosa fiducia desta in me una dolce speranza di tornare di nuovo a vedervi, miei cari e amati luoghi! In verità non ritroverò più ciò che ora mi è tanto caro, e molte cose saranno scomparse fra quelle che ora mi danno gioia! E tuttavia se da voi farò ritorno, ogni felicità perduta, per effetto di teneri canti in forma di ricordo mi sarà ridata.
