En dæmpet sang i det dæmrende lys,
sang over fyldte bægre!
Nei, blomsterne dufter så altfor deiligt inat!
Jeg kysser den slankeste lilje,
jeg hæver det blankeste bæger,
og duggen falder, og natten vinder,
og dagens tindrende høitid rinder,
sol står af hav!
Da tømmer jeg bægret i lange drag,
da bøier jeg knæ for den lyse dag,
og synger en sang for alverdens dårer:
om alt, vi har jublet, om alt, vi har gråt,
om dronningen i vore drømmes slot,
din høisang, Zerlina.
