Erti le corna sulle fronti ottuse,
Bevono per lor nari camuse
Filtri sottili e zeffiri lascivi.
E, mentre in fondo al gran coro alberato
Piange d'amore per la vita bella
La sampogna dell'arcade pastore,
Contenta e paurosa dell'agguato,

On entend dans les collines des ruisseaux bouillonnant
Murmurer à travers les ravins sombres,
On entend dans les bois le gémissement de la cornemuse
Avec le chant joyeux des fifres.
Et les faunes qui courent sur les collines et dans les broussailles,
Leurs cornes droit au-dessus de leurs fronts larges,
Ils boivent par leurs narines épatées,
Des philtres subtils et des zéphyrs lascifs.
Et, tandis que sous le grand chœur des arbres,
Pleure pour l'amour de la belle vie
La flûte du berger arcadien.
Heureuses et craintives de l'attaque imminente,
Les nymphes fuient plus vite que les gazelles sauvages,
Leurs lèvres ardentes comme des fleurs flamboyantes!
