Won by Rose!
Language: English
Seeking a maiden's love There came two wooers gay, With smiles and gifts they strove To wile her heart away; One gave a golden ring, Oh, rare the gem it bore But oh, the other could only bring A rose, and nothing more! Oh maiden, be true! Oh, maiden, be wise! Shall roses or riches be best in your eyes? Of wealth and power one told, Of acres broad and fair, Of a realm to be won by gold, Of marvels waiting there. But one leant over and softly said "Sweetheart, I claim mine own." Her eyes grew bright and her cheeks grew red, As he pleaded for love along! Oh maiden, be true! Oh, maiden, be wise! Shall roses or riches be best in your eyes? A moment but she stands With fear and doubt distressed Then the ring fell from her hands, And the bud her sweet lips pressed And half triumphant, half afraid, As eager hands her hands enfold "Oh love" she cries The choice is made And the rose outweighs the gold!
