Dem Schützen, doch dem alten nicht,
Zu dem die Sonne flieht,
Der uns ihr fernes Angesicht
Mit Wolken überzieht;

Dem Knaben sei dies Lied geweiht,
Der zwischen Rosen spielt,
Uns höret und zur rechten Zeit
Nach schönen Herzen zielt!

Durch ihn hat uns des Winters Nacht,
So häßlich sonst und rauh,
Gar manchen werten Freund gebracht
Und manche liebe Frau.

Von nun an soll sein schönes Bild
Am Sternenhimmel stehn,
Und er soll ewig, hold und mild,
Uns auf- und untergehn.

Vers lequel fuit le soleil
Qui de nuages nous voile
Son lointain visage ;

Que ce chant soit dédié au garçon
Qui joue parmi les roses,
Qui nous entend et au bon moment
Vise les jolis cœurs !

C'est par lui que la nuit de l'hiver,
Par ailleurs si laide et âpre,
Nous a apporté bien des amis chers
Et bien des femmes charmantes.

Qu'à partir de maintenant sa belle image
Se montre dans le ciel étoilé,
Et éternellement , avec grâce et douceur,
Qu'elle se lève et se couche au-dessus de nous.
