Im Süden war's. Zur Nachtzeit. Eine Gasse.
Ich trat aus deinem Haus und schloß das Tor
und wandte noch einmal den Blick empor:
da flog ein Zweig aus deinem Dachgelasse
und fiel aufs Pflaster, - daß ich rasch mich bückte
und deinen Hauch noch warm vom Munde nahm
der schweren Rosen, deren Gruß den Gram
der kurzen Trennung duftend überbrückte.

C'était dans le sud. À la nuit. Une ruelle.
Je sortais de ta maison et fermais la porte
et tournais encore une fois les yeux vers le ciel :
un rameau voltigea alors de ton réduit sous les toits
et tomba sur les pavés, vite je me penchai
et sentis le souffle encore chaud de ta bouche
dans les lourdes roses dont le salut compensait le chagrin
de la brève et odorante séparation.
