Ich will von meiner Missethat Zu dir, Herr, mich bekehren; Du wollest selbst mir Hülf und Rath Hiezu, o Gott, bescheren, Und deines guten Geistes Kraft, Der neue Herzen in uns schafft, Aus Gnaden mir gewähren. 2.

I wish, from my iniquity To turn to Thee, Lord; May Thou Thyself give to me Help and counsel thereto, And the strength of Thy good spirit That creates new hearts within us, In grace let this be granted unto me. 2. Up to now in security I slept almost without concern. I thought: There is still a long time, God does not usually punish so quickly, With our transgressions He is not So strict, for patience has The shepherd with the sheep. 3. All of this has now awakened simultaneously; My heart wishes to burst! I feel the power of Thy thunder And fire pressing upon me; At the same time the kingdoms of death and of hell, Agitate against me; They wish to devour me! 4. Lord Jesus, take me in to Thee! I flee to Thy wounds; Let me be encircled there And remain there every hour! For upon Thee, Thou Lamb of God, All my transgressions have been laden To be borne [by Thee] upon the cross. 5. Here is my heart! Oh purify it From all of its sins; Let it be completely sanctified unto Thee, Let it know Thy love completely! Oh create me fundamentally new, That I, remaining steadfast in the [daily] battle of faith, May overcome the world!
