Die heilige Elisabeth an ihrem Hochzeitsfeste Verließ den stolzen Fürstensaal, Verließ heimlich die Gäste, Ging in den dunkeln Wald hinaus, Wo eine heilge Kapell erbaut, Der Mutter Gottes zu dienen! O Mutter Gottes, welches Leid, Ich muß jetzt von dir scheiden! Die letzten Blumen bring ich heut, Fort muß ich, ich muß meiden Jetzt deinen heilgen Gnadenort Muß weithin in die Fremde fort. Ade du Heilandsmutter! Du Bild, so heilig, gnadenreich, Mein Aug steht voller Zähren, Daß ich jetzund dich nicht mehr schau, Das will mich schier verzehren; Leb wohl, leb wohl, du Mutter mein, Mit deinem lieben Kindelein! Ade, zu tausendmalen! Sie betet, flehet also lang Und will darob nicht beben, Daß sich ein scharfes blankes Schwert Jetzt über ihr erhebet; In reiner Gnade schwebt ihr Blick, Und achtet nicht des Räubers Tück, Der sie da will ermorden! Legt ab sein Schwert und seinen Spieß, Auf seinen Knie sich niederließ, Wagt dann sie anzublicken.
