Jeg kunde juble for alle Vinde min Glæde ud! Vil man den forstå? Nei, bedst jeg varsomt den lukker inde her hos mig selv i mit Hjertes Vrå. Mit Hjerte brænder, det bæver, banker i Takten, o, til en Jubelsang! Mit Hoved gløder af Vårens Tanker. Hvor vild og lystelig deres Gang. Foran mit Øre det bruser, sjunger som Tonerne fra et Englekor. Med tusind sladrende, søde Tunger, det røber mig, hvad i Fremtid bor. Ak! tør jeg tro det! Jeg vil så gjerne. Hvor Håbet flammer og kaster Skin! Ud fra det tause, det dunkle Fjerne en Stjerne stråler - og det er min!

Ich möchte jubeln in alle Winde, Doch fasst ihrs wohl all' die seel'ge Lust! Nein, bleibe wortlos, was ich empfinde, Ich will's verschliessen tief in meiner Brust. Was für ein Brennen, Erzittern, Schwanken! Es schlägt mein Herz wie noch nie es schlug! Im Kopfe flattern mir Lenzgedanken, Und selig folge ich ihrem Flug! Vor meinen Ohren welch' Brausen, Singen, Ein Tönen ist's wie ein Engelchor. Das Ferne scheint mir herein zu dringen Und leuchtend reisst mir der Zukunft Flor. So darf ich glauben? wie tät' ichs gerne! O klare Hoffnung, o lichter Schein! Ach aus der Tiefe, aus dunkler Ferne Ein Stern erschimmert, und der ist mein.
