Glaube, Hoffnung und Liebe

Language: German (Deutsch)

Glaube, hoffe, liebe!
Hältst du treu an diesen Dreyen,
Wirst du [dich nie]1 selbst entzweyen,
Wird dein Himmel nimmer trübe.

Glaube fest an Gott und Herz!
Glaube schwebet himmelwärts.
Mehr noch, als im Sternrevier
Lebt der Gott im Busen dir.
Wenn auch Welt und Menschen lügen,
Kann das Herz doch nimmer trügen.

Hoffe dir Unsterblichkeit,
Und hienieden bess're Zeit!
Hoffnung ist ein schönes Licht,
Und erhellt den Weg der Pflicht.
Hoffe, aber fordre nimmer!
Tag wird mählig, was erst Schimmer.

[Edel liebe]2, fest und rein!
Ohne Liebe bist du Stein.
Liebe läutre dein Gefühl,
Liebe leite dich an's Ziel!
Soll das Leben glücklich blühen,
Muß der Liebe Sonne glühen.

Willst du [dich nie]1 selbst entzweyen,
Halte treu an diesen Dreyen!
Daß nichts deinen Himmel trübe:
Glaube, hoffe, liebe!

Faith, hope and love

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

Believe, hope, and love!
If you hold true to these three,
You will never be divided from yourself,
And your sky will never be dark.

Believe firmly in God and in your own heart!
Faith soars ever toward heaven.
Even more so than in the province of the stars,
God dwells within your breast.
Even if the world and men may lie,
The heart can never deceive.

Hope for immortality,
And for better times here!
Hope is a beautiful light,
That brightens the path of duty.
Hope, but never demand!
Day grows slowly from what was twilight.

Love nobly, steady and pure!
Without love, you are a stone.
Let love purify your feelings,
Let love lead you to your destination!
If life is to blossom happily,
Then the sun of love must glow.

If you wish never to be divided from yourself,
Then hold true to these three!
So that nothing darkens your sky,
Believe, hope, and love!
