Ik zie een hemelstreepje,
De zee wordt kalm en goed.
 
Ik kan je niet vermijden,
O dood, die 'k kwijt wou zijn!
Met 't einde van mijn lijden
Begint mijn moeders pijn.
 
O moederhart, laat drukken
't Verdriet je niet te zeer!
Niet vele ogenblikken
Scheidt ons de doodszee meer.
 
Daar aanbeland, ontwijk ik
Ook nimmermeer het strand,
Kijk steeds naar jou, en reik ik
De landenden de hand.
