Je te donnerai tout le bruit
  Qui se fait
  Quand le matin s'éveille
  Au soleil
  Et l'eau qui coule
  Dans la fontaine
  Tout auprès ;

Et puis encor le soir qui viendra vite.
Le soir de mon âme triste
  A pleurer
Et mes mains toutes petites
Avec mon cœur qu'il faudra près du tien
Garder.

Wenn du willst, dann schenk’ ich dir
meinen ganzen heitren Morgen
und all mein helles Haar,
das du so liebst;
und meine Augen, grün
und golden,
wenn du willst.

Ich schenk’ dir alle Töne,
die erklingen,
wenn der Tag erwacht
der Sonn’ entgegen
und auch das Wasser,
das im Brunnen springt
ganz nah;

und dann den Abend noch, der eilends naht.
Den Abend meiner Seele,
traurig tränenvoll,
und meine kleinen, kleinen Hände,
wie auch mein Herz, das neben deinem sei 
in sichrer Hut.

das längst aufgegeben ist.
Auch, was wie rosa Schwermut lag
auf dem Mädcheninternat.
Gestern - ist mein Herz, falsch hingegeben
Jahr um Jahr in meinem Leben!
Gestern - nur noch ein Schatten ist’s heut Abend hier
in meiner Kammer, ein Dunkel nah bei mir.
