Es grünten die Bäume, es blühten die Rosen, es sangen die Vöglein von Lieben und Kosen, es flossen die Bächlein im Frühlingshauch schneller, es glänzten die mächtigen Sterne viel heller, die Welt war ein Herze voll jauchzender Lust, sie schien mir ein Spiegel der eigenen Brust. Es welken die Bäume, es welken die Rosen, es fliehen die Vöglein mit Lieben und Kosen, es rinnen die Bächlein so traurig und müde, es scheinen der Mond und die Sterne so trübe, der Welt floh die Freude, der Frühling, die Lust! Und so ist auch öde die eigene Brust.

Verdejaven els arbres, florien les roses, cantaven els ocells d'amor i de carícies, en l'hàlit primaveral, corrien més de pressa els rierols, les poderoses estrelles brillaven amb més claror, el món era com un cor ple d'exultant voluptat, semblava el reflex de la meva pròpia ànima. S'assequen els arbres, es marceixen les roses, fugen els ocells amb l'amor i les carícies, tristos i cansats s'escolen els rierols, la lluna i les estrelles semblen tan somorts, del món han fugit la joia, la primavera, la voluptat! I així també, erma ha quedat la meva ànima.
