O feines, klares Flüstern ein Murmeln, waldesdüstern; es gleicht dem süßen Singen wogender Halme Sänge rollender Kiesel Klänge, die mahlenden Wassern entspringen. Die Seele, die jammert, zagt, in ihrem Schlummer klagt - sie ist die unsre, nicht? Aus meiner, sag, und deiner, ertönt ein leiser, reiner Gesang ins Abendlicht.

Grundlos weint es in meinem Herzen, das immer mehr den Mut verliert. Wie! Keine Treulosigkeit! Meine Trauer ist unbegründet. Das ist gewiss der schlimmste Schmerz, nicht zu wissen, warum mein Herz ohne Liebe und ohne Hass so leidet.
