1. Gute Nacht [sung text checked 1 time]
Fremd bin ich eingezogen,
Fremd zieh' ich wieder aus.
Der Mai war mir gewogen
Mit manchem Blumenstrauß.
Das Mädchen sprach von Liebe,
Die Mutter gar von Eh' -
Nun ist die Welt so trübe,
Der Weg gehüllt in Schnee.

Ich kann zu meiner Reisen
Nicht wählen mit der Zeit:
Muß selbst den Weg mir weisen
In dieser Dunkelheit.
Es zieht ein Mondenschatten
Als mein Gefährte mit,
Und auf den weißen Matten
Such' ich des Wildes Tritt.

Was soll ich länger weilen,
[Bis]1 man mich trieb' hinaus?
Laß irre Hunde heulen
Vor ihres Herren Haus!
Die Liebe liebt das Wandern, -
Gott hat sie so gemacht -
Von Einem zu dem Andern -
Fein Liebchen, gute Nacht!

Will dich im Traum nicht stören,
Wär' Schad' um deine Ruh',
Sollst meinen Tritt nicht hören -
Sacht, sacht die Thüre zu!
[Ich schreibe nur im Gehen]2
An's Thor [noch]3 gute Nacht,
Damit du mögest sehen,
[Ich hab' an dich]4 gedacht.

1. Goeie Nacht
As frjemdling bin 'k hjir kommen,
as frjemdling gean 'k wer fuort.
De maitiid brocht my blommen,
it fjild stie yn 'e knop.
It famke wie fereale,
har mem woe brulloft ha!
No is de wrâld sa trystich,
mei sniebrot der op ta.

Ik kin gjin tiid mij kieze,
no't 'k fuort moat fan dit stee.
'k Moat sels it paad mij wize
yn tsjusterens, mei wee.
De moanne feal en dizich;
ik reizgje mei syn skaad.
Op fjilden, drôf en izich
sykje ik in bistepaad.

Wat sil ik langer tôvje,
no 't ik ferjage wurd?
Lit harren hûnen âlje,
en weitsj' oer hiem en hurd;
God lit ús elts bekoare -
sa dwelmet men mar ta,
fan de iene nei de oare -
Myn famke, goeienacht!

'k Lit dij no lekker sliepe,
sa blier sprekt dyn gesicht!
De doar hearsto net piipjen,
súntsjes doch ik him ticht.
Ik moat dij no ferlitte,
mar 'k skriuw noch: goeienacht.
Sa lit ik oan dij witte,
ik haw noch oan dij tocht.

2. Die Wetterfahne [sung text checked 1 time]

2. De Wynhoanne
De wyn dy lit de hoanne krite
op 't dak fan myn leaf, moai hertsje' hûs.
Ik tocht, do moast dy no ferbite,
hij stekt dij de gek oan mei wyngerûs.

Hij hie it earder ealgje moatten,
dat hûs mei 't aldersierlikst skyld.
Dan hied er him perfoarst net stoarten
op dat trouhertich frouwebyld.

De wyn boartet dêr mei herten fan minsken,
wifsinnich en wyld, slûchslim en gemien.
Wa freget my noch nei myn winsken?
harr'n dochter is foar in riken-ien.

3. Gefrorne Tränen [sung text checked 1 time]
Gefrorne Tropfen fallen
Von meinen Wangen ab:
[Und ist's]1 mir denn entgangen,
Daß ich geweinet hab'?

Ei Thränen, meine Thränen,
Und seid ihr gar so lau,
Daß ihr erstarrt zu Eise,
Wie kühler Morgenthau?

[Und]2 dringt doch aus der Quelle
Der Brust so glühend heiß,
Als wolltet ihr zerschmelzen
Des ganzen Winters Eis.

3. Beferzen Triennen
Beferzen triennen falle
foar myn fuotten op 'e grûn:
Of hie ik der gjin erch yn,
dat 'k skriemend myn paad net fûn?

Och triennen, o myn triennen,
binn' jimme dan sa flau,
dat jim op slach befrieze

Jimm' komme út in boarne,
in boarst sa baarnend hjit.
As woene jimm' ûntteie
it iis dat mij lije lit!

4. Erstarrung [sung text checked 1 time]
Ich such' im Schnee vergebens
Nach ihrer Tritte Spur,
[Hier, wo wir oft gewandelt
Selbander durch die]1 Flur.

Ich will den Boden küssen,
Durchdringen Eis und Schnee
Mit meinen heißen Thränen,
Bis ich die Erde seh'.

Wo find' ich eine Blüthe,
Wo find' ich grünes Gras?
Die Blumen sind erstorben,
Der Rasen sieht so blaß.

Soll denn kein Angedenken
Ich nehmen mit von hier?
Wenn meine Schmerzen schweigen,
Wer sagt mir dann von ihr?

Mein Herz ist wie [erfroren]2,
Kalt starrt ihr Bild darin:
Schmilzt je das Herz mir wieder,
Fließt auch [das]3 Bild dahin.

4. Ferstiivje
Fergees eagje ik it hear oer
har stap is al lang wei,
hja rûn deun oan myn side,
fereale woe se mei.

Ik wol de grûn wol patsje,
ûntlitte iis en snie
mei al myn hite triennen,
oant ik de ierde fiel.

Wêr fyn 'k it earste bloeisel
Wêr is  it griene gers?
De blommen binn' ferwile,
it fjild yn deadske rêst.

Is hjir dan neat te finen,
dat ik meinimme kin?
As 't hertsear wer belunet,
Wa bringt mij dij yn 't sin?

Myn hert fielt kâld, bestjurre,
har byld befrear dêryn;
as ea myn hert ûntteit is,
blykt ek har byld mar skyn.

5. Der Lindenbaum [sung text checked 1 time]
Am Brunnen vor dem Thore
Da steht ein Lindenbaum:
Ich träumt' in seinem Schatten
So manchen süßen Traum.

Ich schnitt in seine Rinde
So manches liebe Wort;
Es zog in Freud' und Leide
Zu ihm mich immer fort.

Ich mußt' auch heute wandern
Vorbei in tiefer Nacht,
Da hab' ich noch im [Dunkel]1
Die Augen zugemacht.

Und seine Zweige rauschten,
Als riefen sie mir zu:
Komm her zu mir, Geselle,
Hier findst du deine Ruh'!

Die kalten Winde bliesen
Mir grad' in's Angesicht,
Der Hut flog mir vom Kopfe,
Ich wendete mich nicht.

Nun bin ich manche Stunde
Entfernt von jenem Ort,
Und immer hör' ich's rauschen:
Du fändest Ruhe dort!

5. De Linebeam
Neist boarne, bij de poarte,
dêr stiet in linebeam;
Faak lei 'k yn 't skaad te drôgjen
en hie 'k in swiete dream.

Ik snie twa hertsjes yn de stam,
troch pylkjes fêst ferbûn.
En wie 'k optein of mankelyk,
dy beam luts mij jimmeroan.

Fannacht rûn ik yn 't tsjuster
de linebeam foarbij.
Doe hie 'k mei tichte eagen
myn eigen dreamerij.

De wyn rûz't troch de twigen,
as rôpen se my sêft:
kom hjir, bij mij  jongkeardel
bij mij fynst do dyn rêst.

De skrouske winen bliesen
mij lyk yn it gesicht;
de hoed fleach fan 'e holle,
'k Rûn troch, ik haw net swicht.

No seach ik oeren rinnen
dy linebeam foar 't lêst.
'k Hear jimmer noch dat rûzjen:
bij mij fynsto dochs rêst!

6. Wasserflut [sung text checked 1 time]
Manche Thrän' aus meinen Augen
Ist gefallen in den Schnee;
Seine kalten Flocken saugen
Durstig ein das heiße Weh.

[Wann]1 die Gräser sprossen wollen,
Weht daher ein lauer Wind,
Und das Eis zerspringt in Schollen,
Und der weiche Schnee zerrinnt.

Schnee, du weißt von meinem Sehnen:
[Sag mir, wohin]2 geht dein Lauf?
Folge nach nur meinen Thränen,
Nimmt dich bald das Bächlein auf.

Wirst mit ihm die Stadt durchziehen,
Muntre Straßen ein und aus:
Fühlst du meine Thränen glühen,
Da ist meiner Liebsten Haus.

6. Wetterfloed
Mannich trien ha 'k rinne litten,
is opnommen troch de snie;
inkeld dy kâlde flokken witte
fan it hertsear dat ik hie.

As it grien rint oer de greiden,
mylde wyn oer fjilden waait;
't iis yn de sleatten tebrekt ta skossen,
en de snie ta wetter teit.

Snie, do wist dochs fan myn langstme,
sis, wêrhinne giet dyn paad?
Lit dy liede troch myn triennen
oant datst weiwurdst yn it saad.

Silst dat langstme rûnom bringe;
stêd en lân sa kein en prûs;
fielsto ienris myn triennen wâljen,
dêr is dan myn leafst' har hûs.

7. Auf dem Flusse [sung text checked 1 time]
Der du so lustig rauschtest,
Du heller, wilder Fluß,
Wie still bist du geworden,
Giebst keinen Scheidegruß.

Mit harter, starrer Rinde
Hast du dich überdeckt,
Liegst kalt und unbeweglich
Im Sande [hingestreckt]1.

In deine Decke grab' ich
Mit einem spitzen Stein
Den Namen meiner Liebsten
Und Stund' und Tag hinein:

Den Tag des ersten Grußes,
Den Tag, an dem ich ging,
Um Nam' und Zahlen windet
Sich ein zerbrochner Ring.

Mein Herz, in diesem Bache
Erkennst du nun dein Bild?
Ob's unter seiner Rinde
Wohl auch so reißend schwillt?

7. Oan de Wetterkant
Do, dy'tst sa libben brûsdest,
do held're, wylde stream,
wat leist dêr drôgjend hinne,
as hiest in slommerdream.

Do leist dêr no bedutsen,
tsjûk iis hat dy belein.
Leist kâld en ûnferweechlik
yn 't gea, hast sûnder ein.

Yn 't iis kras ik de wurden,
it dwaalt mar troch myn geast;
de namme fan myn leafste
en doe 'k har seach foar 't earst.

De dei fan 't earste glimke,
de dei, doe 'k dij ferliet;
ik kras in iepen rûnte
om namme, dei en tiid.

Myn hert, sjoch dizze streame,
liket se net op dij?
fan bûten kâld en izich
(mar) der ûnder razernij?

8. Rückblick [sung text checked 1 time]
Es brennt mir unter beiden Sohlen,
Tret' ich auch schon auf Eis und Schnee.
Ich möcht' nicht wieder Athem holen,
Bis ich nicht mehr die Thürme seh'.

Hab' mich an [jedem]1 Stein gestoßen,
So eilt' ich zu der Stadt hinaus;
Die Krähen warfen Bäll' und Schloßen
Auf meinen Hut von jedem Haus.

Wie anders hast du mich empfangen,
Du Stadt der Unbeständigkeit!
An deinen blanken Fenstern sangen
Die Lerch' und Nachtigall im Streit.

Die runden Lindenbäume blühten,
Die klaren Rinnen rauschten hell,
Und ach, zwei Mädchenaugen glühten! -
Da war's geschehn um dich, Gesell!

Kömmt mir der Tag in die Gedanken,
Möcht' ich noch einmal rückwärts sehn,
Möcht' ich zurücke wieder wanken,
Vor ihrem Hause stille stehn.

8. Weromsjen
Al wrakselj' ik troch iis en snie,
de fuotten stean mij yn 'e brân.
Ik flechtsje fuort, ik fiel ferrie,
ik haw it net mear foar 't ferstân.

Ik stroffelje oer losse stiennen,
sa hastich gie ik út de stêd;
De roeken smite hagelstiennen
fan elts hûs ôf, bopp' op myn pet.

Hoe oars hast do mij wolkom hjitten,
do stêd; sa ritich as it waar.
En sjongend yn de beammen sitte,
de ljurk en geal mei har ferhaal.

De folle linebeammen bloeiden,
it held're wetter streamde fûl,
Mar o, dy eagen fan har gloeiden, -
Myn freon, dat rekke it gefoel!

Komt mij dy dei wer yn gedachten,
wol ik noch ienris nei har gean.
Ik wol wol krûpend, kin net wachtsje,
en (stil) swijend foar har glêzen stean.

In die tiefsten Felsengründe
Lockte mich ein Irrlicht hin:
Wie ich einen Ausgang finde,
Liegt nicht schwer mir in dem Sinn.

Bin gewohnt das irre Gehen,
'S führt ja jeder Weg zum Ziel:
Unsre Freuden, unsre [Wehen]1,
Alles eines Irrlichts Spiel!

Durch des Bergstroms trockne Rinnen
Wind' ich ruhig mich hinab -
Jeder Strom wird's Meer gewinnen,
Jedes Leiden auch [ein]2 Grab.

Nei it djipste fan de ôfgrûn

soe 'k it paad werom ea fine?
Dat hie 'k wier noch net betocht.

Bylâns droege sleatten swalkj' ik,
wâdzjend troch it stof en tsjêf,
eltse stream sil see wer fine,

Nun merk' ich erst, wie müd' ich bin,
Da ich zur Ruh' mich lege;
Das Wandern hielt mich munter hin
Auf unwirthbarem Wege.

Die Füße frugen nicht nach Rast,
Es war zu kalt zum Stehen,
Der Rücken fühlte keine Last,
Der Sturm half fort mich wehen.

In eines Köhlers engem Haus
Hab' Obdach ich gefunden;
Doch meine Glieder ruhn nicht aus:
So brennen ihre Wunden.

Auch du, mein Herz, [im]1 Kampf und Sturm
So wild und so verwegen,
Fühlst in der Still' erst deinen Wurm
Mit heißem Stich sich regen!

10. Rêst
'k Fernim no krekt myn wurge lea,
no 'k justjes lis te bekommen:
Fûleindich swalk' ik troch it gea,
doe ha 'k gjin pine fernommen.
Myn fuotten fregen nei gjin rêst,
it wie te kâld en wachtsje;
De rêch fernaam alhiel gjin lêst,
de stoarm dy liet my jachtsje.

Yn 't wenstje fan in houtskoalman
fûn ik in plak te rêsten.
Doch bleauw'n de lea mij slim oerstjoer;
it brânde yn myn wêzen.
Ek do, myn hert, yn stoarm en striid,
oerémis as in wiele.
Fielst yn de rêst foarearst de niid
it flymt mij troch de siele!

11. Frühlingstraum [sung text checked 1 time]
Ich träumte von bunten Blumen,
So wie sie wohl blühen im Mai,
Ich träumte von grünen Wiesen,
Von lustigem Vogelgeschrei.

Und als die Hähne krähten,
Da ward mein Auge wach;
Da war es kalt und finster,
Es schrieen die Raben vom Dach.

Doch an den Fensterscheiben,
Wer mahlte die Blätter da?
Ihr lacht wohl über den Träumer,
Der Blumen im Winter sah?

Ich träumte von Lieb' um Liebe,
Von einer schönen Maid,
Von Herzen und von Küssen,
Von [Wonn']1 und Seligkeit.

Und als die Hähne krähten,
Da ward mein Herze wach;
Nun sitz' ich hier alleine
Und denke dem Traume nach.

Die Augen schließ' ich wieder,
Noch schlägt das Herz so warm.
Wann grünt ihr Blätter am Fenster?
Wann halt' ich [dich, Liebchen,]2 im Arm?

11. Foarjiersdream
Ik dreamde fan bûnte blommen,
sa ast' se elts foarjier wer sjochst.
Ik dreamde fan griene greiden,
mei skries en ljip yn 'e loft.

Mar no't de hoannen kraaie,
flean ik fan skrik oerein.
Ik sit yn kjeld en tsjuster;
myn dream is no rimpen ferflein.

Mar op berypte ruten,
wa kleuret de blommen sa ljocht?
Hja gnysket dochs om in dreamer,
dy 't blommen bij 't winter sjocht?

Ik dreamde fan har, myn leafste,
myn tsjeppe, fiere jongfaam,
fan nodzjen en fan wille,
fan tútsjes op 'e daam.

Mar as de hoannen kraaie,
dat skuort mij troch it hert;
No sit ik hjir allinnich,
myn dream hâldt mij teset.

As ik de eagen ticht doch,
fiel ik har yn it hert.
Sil ea it blêd wer grienje?
Sjoch ik ea myn leafste wer?

12. Einsamkeit [sung text checked 1 time]
Wie eine trübe Wolke
Durch heitre Lüfte geht,
[Wann]1 in der [Tanne]2 Wipfel
Ein mattes Lüftchen weht:

So zieh' ich meine Straße
Dahin mit trägem Fuß,
Durch helles, frohes Leben,
Einsam und ohne Gruß.

Ach, daß die Luft so ruhig!
Ach, daß die Welt so licht!
Als noch die Stürme tobten,
War ich so elend nicht.

12. Iensumens
Sa as in tsjust're wolke
troch 't skjinne loftrom giet,
Wannear't op romme marren
súntsjes in wyntsje stiet.

Sa gean ik ek myn paden,
op wei, mei swiere trêd.
Ik rin troch fleurich libben,
iensum, as wie 'k besmet.

Och, wie de loft sa rêstich,
de wrâld sa fleurich net!
Doe't ea de stoarmen raasden,
wie ik sa treurich net.

13. Die Post [sung text checked 1 time]
Von der Straße her ein Posthorn klingt.
Was hat es, daß es so hoch aufspringt,
Mein Herz?

Die Post bringt keinen Brief für dich:
Was drängst du denn so wunderlich,
Mein Herz?

Nun ja, die Post [kömmt]1 aus der Stadt,
Wo ich ein liebes Liebchen hatt',
Mein Herz!

Willst wohl einmal hinübersehn,
Und fragen, wie es dort mag gehn,
Mein Herz?

14. Der greise Kopf [sung text checked 1 time]
Der Reif [hatt']1 einen weißen Schein
Mir über's Haar gestreuet.
Da [meint']2 ich schon ein Greis zu sein,
Und hab' mich sehr gefreuet.

Doch bald ist er hinweggethaut,
Hab' wieder schwarze Haare,
Daß mir's vor meiner Jugend graut -
Wie weit noch bis zur Bahre!

Vom Abendroth zum Morgenlicht
Ward mancher Kopf zum Greise.
Wer glaubt's? Und meiner ward es nicht
Auf dieser ganzen Reise!

Aus der Stadt gezogen,

Meinen Leib zu fassen?

Nun, es wird nicht weit mehr gehn
An dem Wanderstabe.
Krähe, laß mich endlich sehn
Treue bis zum Grabe!

[Hier]1 und da ist an den Bäumen

16. Lêste Hope
Hjir en dêr kinst oan de beammen
fleur'ge bûnte bledsjes sjen,
As ik stoarje nei dy beammen,
fiel 'k mij yn mysels ferlern.

Sjoch ik dan nei ien sa'n bledsje,
dêr 't ik dan myn hope oan byn;
Giet de wyn fuort mei dat bledsje,
trilje ik, fan eangstme en pyn'

En falt myn blêd yn 'e smodze,
is myn hope ek ferflein;
'k Stoart mysels ek yn 'e smodze,
'k skriem, no is myn hoop oanein.

17. Im Dorfe [sung text checked 1 time]
Je nun, sie haben ihr Theil genossen,
Und hoffen, was sie noch übrig ließen,
Doch wieder zu finden auf ihren Kissen.

Bellt mich nur fort, ihr wachen Hunde,
Laßt mich nicht ruhn in der Schlummerstunde!
Ich bin zu Ende mit allen Träumen -
Was will ich unter den Schläfern säumen?

17. Yn 't Doarp
De blaffende hûnen, se raze  oer 't hiemstee;
Wylst minsken sliepe yn harren bedstee,
Dreame mar wakker wat se ûntbeare,
fergapje harsels op it goed' en it kweade;
En moarns betiid is alles by 't âlde.
Mar dochs, hja kin mar in part ûnthâlde
en hoopje, fan wat se fergetten hiene,
dochs ûnder har kessen wêrom te finen.

Blaf dochs jim hûnen, en hâld mij wach;
'k wol mij net deljaan, al is it no nacht!
Fan al myn dreamen ha 'k ôfskied nommen.
Sil ik fan dreamers wiisheid bekomme?

18. Der stürmische Morgen [sung text checked 1 time]
Wie hat der Sturm zerrissen
Des Himmels graues Kleid!
Die Wolkenfetzen flattern
Umher im mattem Streit.

Und rothe Feuerflammen
Ziehn zwischen ihnen hin.
Das nenn' ich einen Morgen
So recht nach meinem Sinn!

Mein Herz sieht an dem Himmel
Gemahlt sein eignes Bild -
Es ist nichts als der Winter,
Der Winter kalt und wild!

18. Moarntiidsstoarm
De swiere grize loften
bin troch de stoarm ferskuord!
De lêste wolken driuwe;
de wyn blaast  alles  fuort.

It reade fan de sinne
set loft yn fjoer en flam.
Sa sjoch ik graach de moarntiid
al hiel myn libben lang!

Myn hert sjocht oan de himel
as wie 't syn eigen byld -
It is de strange winter,
de winter kâld en wyld!

19. Täuschung [sung text checked 1 time]
Ein Licht tanzt freundlich vor mir her;
Ich folg' ihm nach die Kreuz und Quer;
Ich folg' ihm gern, und seh's ihm an,
Daß es verlockt den Wandersmann.
Ach, wer wie ich so elend ist,
Giebt gern sich hin der bunten List,
Die hinter Eis und Nacht und Graus
Ihm weist ein helles, warmes Haus,
Und eine liebe Seele drin -
Nur Täuschung ist für mich Gewinn!

19. Mislieding
Ik sjoch in ljochtsje flakkerjend gean;
ik folgje it nei, gean skriks en skean;
Ik folgje it graach, oan 't ik fernaam,
it bringt de rinner yn 'e waan.
Och, wa 't ek krekt sa lijt as mij,
jout him graach oer oan fermalerij.
Him wiist in skjin, waarm ûnderdak
nei tsjirmerij en ûngemak,
mei ek in leave siel deryn. -
Mislieding is foar mij gewin!

20. Der Wegweiser [sung text checked 1 time]
Was vermeid' ich denn die Wege,
Wo die [andren]1 Wandrer gehn,
Suche mir versteckte Stege
Durch [verschneite]2 Felsenhöhn?

Habe ja doch nichts begangen,
Daß ich Menschen sollte scheun -
Welch ein thörichtes Verlangen
Treibt mich in die Wüstenein?

Weiser stehen auf den [Straßen]3,
Weisen auf die Städte zu,
Und ich wandre sonder Maßen,
Ohne Ruh', und suche Ruh'.

Einen Weiser seh' ich stehen
Unverrückt vor meinem Blick;
Eine Straße muß ich gehen,
Die noch Keiner ging zurück.

20. De Paadwizer
Wêrom nim ik dochs gjin paden,
dy 't wol d' oare minsken gean.
'k Gean myn wei, troch tsjust're skaden,
oer 't besnijde paad troch 't fean.

Nea haw ik in minske skramme,
dat ik oaren mije moat,
Hokker dwaas en pynlik langstme,
hat mij yn dizz' ôfgrûn stoart?

Wizers stean' oan alle diken,
wize paad nei doarp en stêd.
En ik rin hjir ûnbedimber;
ûngeduerich sykje ik rêst.

'k Sjoch in wizer by it hôfspaad,
stoarjend giet it yn my om;
fan it paad dat ik no gean moat,
kaam noch nimmen wer werom.

21. Das Wirtshaus [sung text checked 1 time]
Auf einen Todtenacker
Hat mich mein Weg gebracht.
Allhier will ich einkehren:
Hab' ich bei mir gedacht.

Ihr grünen Todtenkränze
Könnt wohl die Zeichen sein,
Die müde Wandrer laden
In's kühle Wirthshaus ein.

Sind denn in diesem Hause
Die Kammern all' besetzt?
Bin matt zum Niedersinken,
[Und]1 tödtlich schwer verletzt.

O unbarmherz'ge Schenke,
Doch weisest du mich ab?
Nun weiter denn, nur weiter,
Mein treuer Wanderstab!

21. De Herberch
It paad dat ik no rûn haw, kaam bij in tsjerkhôf út;
dêr wol 'k in sliepplak sykje, sa naam ik myn beslút.

Mar bin yn dizze herberch de keamers al fersein?

O, ûnbarmhertich gasthûs, wiist do mij hjir no ôf?
Dan fierder, dochs wêr fierder, myn trouwe gongelstôk!

Fliegt der Schnee mir in's Gesicht,
Schüttl' ich ihn herunter.
Wenn mein Herz im Busen spricht,
Sing' ich hell und munter.

Höre nicht, was es mir sagt,
Habe keine Ohren.
Fühle nicht, was es mir klagt,
Klagen ist für Thoren.

Lustig in die Welt hinein
Gegen Wind und Wetter!
Will kein Gott auf Erden sein,
Sind wir selber Götter.

22. Moed
Fljocht de snie mij yn 't gesicht;
'k wiskj' it fan de holle.
As it hert mij kweadens dicht't,
sjong ik blier en folle!

Ik hear net, wêr't it oer praat,
'k ha dêrfoar gjin earen;
ik klei net, al is it smaad,
kleien is foar healen.

Fleurich swalkje ik troch de wrâld,

As gjin God ús dan behâldt,
binn' wysels as goaden.

Drei Sonnen [sah']1 ich am Himmel stehn,
Hab' lang' und fest sie angesehn;
Und sie auch standen da so stier,
Als [könnten]2 sie nicht weg von mir.
Ach, meine Sonnen seid ihr nicht!
Schaut [Andren]3 doch in's Angesicht!

Nun sind hinab die besten zwei.

24. Der Leiermann [sung text checked 1 time]
Drüben [hinter'm]1 Dorfe
Steht ein Leiermann,
Und mit [starren Fingern]2
Dreht er was er [kann]3.

Baarfuß auf dem Eise
[Schwankt]4 er hin und her;
Und sein kleiner Teller
[Bleibt ihm]5 immer leer.

Keiner mag ihn hören,
Keiner sieht ihn an;
Und die Hunde [brummen]6
Um den alten Mann.

Und er läßt es gehen
Alles, wie es will,
Dreht, und seine Leier
Steht ihm nimmer still.

Wunderlicher Alter,
Soll ich mit dir gehn?
Willst zu meinen Liedern
Deine Leier drehn?

24. De Oargelman
Krekt foarby it doarpke
stiet in oargelman
mei syn stramme fingers
kin er der wat fan.

Trêdzjend op hoasfuotling,
hat er it mar dreech,
en syn sintebakje
bliuwt mar altyd leech.

Nimmen wol him hearre,
nimmen sjocht him oan,
en de hûnen bylje
om dy âlde man,

mar hij lit dat alles,
krekt sa as it is,
draait mar oan syn oargel,
nea giet dêr wat mis.

Wûnderaardich mantsje,
mei ik neist dij stean?
Litst dan bij myn lieten
ek dyn oargel gean?
