Las viejas y amargas canciones, los sueños amargos y malos hay que enterrarlos ahora: traigan un gran féretro. Allí depositaré muchas cosas, pero aún no digo qué: el féretro debe ser más grande que el tonel de Heidelberg. Y traigan un ataúd, y tablas firmes y gruesas, que deben ser más largas que el puente de Maguncia. Tráiganme también doce gigantes, que deben ser más fuertes que el poderoso San Cristóbal de la catedral de Colonia sobre el Rin. Deberán llevarse el féretro, y hundirlo en el mar, pues un ataúd tan grande merece una gran fosa. ¿Saben por qué debe ser tan grande y pesado el ataúd? En él hundo mi amor y mi dolor.
