Drückt was Dein Herze, wirf's 'runter alsbald,

You have so long given thought to love
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
You have too long given thought to love,
Now you find no sweetheart who smiles upon you any longer,
Your sweetheart lives upon an iron field,
Has trysted with you for a solemn embrace.
If something presses upon your heart, throw it off straightaway,
We command you to march, and never to halt.
Your bridal bed is earthen, many guests stand at the ready,
Your wedding garb is a blooming crimson.
For we all have our fun with it,
We ride merrily to the solemn parade,
A trumpeting song accompanies us,
The canons interject the rumbling bass.
If you should finally return in old age,
One would give you a piece of mouldy bread.
If you should gather with handsome comrades,
The girls would strew pearls before you.
