Es ist mein Herz ein kleines Haus
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Es ist mein Herz ein kleines Haus,
Mitten, mitten im Walde;
Viel Vöglein fliegen wohl ein und aus,
Wohl über Flur und Halde.
Sie fliegen hin, sie fliegen her,
Singen trauliche Lieder;
Ziehn über Berge, fliehn übers Meer,
Und kommen singend wieder.
Sie pflücken sich im Morgenschein
Gold'ne, glänzende Rosen:
Sie lernen von dem Zephyr im Hain
Mit Veilchenblüthen kosen.
Wohl ist mein Herz ein glückliches Herz,
D'rin thront eine Königinne,
Die macht zur Wonne jeglichen Schmerz
Mit ihrer süssen Minne.
Ihr fliegen all' die Vöglein zu,
Kosen mit ihr und küssen,
und sie, -- sie wird in lächelnder Ruh'
Wohl alles leiden müssen.
Ach, seit im Haus die Königin,
Ist's d'rin so licht und helle; --
Mich dünkt, es ist so traulich darin,
'S ist eine Waldkapelle.

The chapel in the woods
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
It is my heart, this little house,
In the middle, middle of the woods;
Many little birds fly in and out,
Over field and hill.
They fly hither, they fly thither,
Singing sweet songs;
They fly away across the mountains, fly over the sea,
And come singing back again.
In the morning light they pick for themselves
Splendid golden roses:
The zephyrs teach them in the grove
how to caress the violet blossoms.
To be sure, my heart is a happy heart,
And inside there is enthroned a queen,
Who turns every sorrow to bliss
With her sweet love.
All the little birds fly to her,
Fondle her and kiss;
And she in smiling peace
Can well endure anything.
Ah, since the queen took house there,
It is so light and bright inside:
I think it is as comfortable there
As a chapel in the woods.
