Kukuk, Kukuk, Kukuk. Da wandte er sich schnelle her, Er sang so traurig, bange, schwer: »Von rothem Gold ein Ringelein, Ließ ich im Bett der Liebsten mein, Ich schwing nicht mein Gefieder, Bis mir das Ringlein wieder. Kukuk, Kukuk, Kukuk.« »Ach Goldschmidt, lieber Goldschmidt mein, Schmied' mir von Gold ein Ringelein, Schmied mir ihn an die rechte Hand, Ich nehm ihn mit ins Vaterland, Dann schwing ich mein Gefieder, Wohl übern See hinüber.
