Schlaf, Kindlein, schlafe sanft und süß
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  FIN
Schlaf, Kindlein, schlafe sanft und süß
In diesem Maienparadies!
Sieh über dir der Wipfel Schnee,
Rund um dich her des Angers Klee!
  Im Maien
  Gedeihen,
Die Kindelein weiß und rot.

O schlummre still im Mutterschoß
[Sei mild, wie Thau]1 am Frühlingssproß!
Hoch über dir der Vöglein Schar
[Sieh' neben]2 dir das Bächlein klar!
  Im Maien
  Gedeihen
Die Kindelein weiß und rot.

Nun schläfst du, kleiner Schäfer, nicht.
Dir schwirren Käfer ums Gesicht --
Und in des Abends Purpurglanz
Siehst du der Mücken Rundetanz!
  O Kindchen,
  Dein Mündchen,
Es lacht, wie das Rös'lein roth!

O schlaf an meinem Herzen ein!
Dann werden Englein um dich sein,
Sie tragen dir in sanfter Ruh
[Wie Biene]3 Himmelsträume zu;
  Die Schwingen
  Erklingen,
Und kühlen die Wänglein dir.

Nun schlummerst du so sanft und süß,
Und um dich her ist Paradies!
Ich trage leise dich hinein
Ins still beschirmte Kämmerlein.
  Im Maien
  Gedeihen
Die Kindelein weiß und roth!

Kehtolaulu (lauletaan keväällä)
Language: Finnish (Suomi)  after the German (Deutsch)
Nuku, lapsonen, nuku rauhassa ja makeasti
tässä keväisessä paratiisissa!
Katso puiden lumivalkoisina hohtavia latvoja,
katso niityn apilaa ympärilläsi!
Keväällä viihtyvät, keväällä viihtyvät
valkeat ja punaiset kukkaslapset.

Oi uinu hiljaa äitisi sylissä
kuin kaste keväisessä versossa!
Korkealla ylläsi lintujen parvi
ja vierelläsi kirkas puronen!
Keväällä viihtyvät, keväällä viihtyvät
valkeat ja punaiset kukkaslapset.

Oi nukahda sydäntäni vasten!
Silloin pienet enkelit tulevat ympärillesi
ja kantavat sinulle suloisessa rauhassa
outoja taivasunia;
niiden siivet soivat
ja viilentävät kuumia poskiasi.
