Der Himmel übervoll von Sternen lacht,
Die Blume träumt, im Wipfel leises Weh'n,
Und leise durch den Wald die Quellen geh'n.
O das ist Sommernacht  --  sehnsüchtig hallt
Ein süßer Vogelschlag im tiefen Wald.

Sonst rings kein Laut:   Es schlummert Berg und Thal,
Silbern getauchet in des Mondes Strahl,
Nur in der Seele sehnet es und lacht,
Als sei sie eingetaucht in diese Nacht,
In diesen Frieden, diese süße Ruh'  -- 
Doch meine Seele, warum weinest du?
