Io sembro appunto

Io sembro appunto
quell'augelletto,
che alfin scampò
da quella rete,
che ritrovò
nascosta tra le fronde.
Pur alfin sciolto,
solo soletto
volando va.
E libero non sa
donar pace al suo cuor,
se nel passato impegno
ei si confonde.

I am the very image
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
I am the very image
of some bird
that, having finally escaped the net,
finds itself hiding amongst the branches.
Finally let go,
it flies off into the distance
all alone.
Yet now that it is free,
it cannot bestow peace onto its heart
if it should stumble upon some past commitment.
