Blumen nur und fromme Lieder
Machen meiner Tage Glück,
Und in Träumen kehrt es wieder,
Wenn sich schliesst mein müder Blick.
Blumen nur und frommer Sang
Stillen meines Herzens Drang.
Ruhig, wie auf Blütenzweigen
Sich der leichte Vogel schwingt,
und gelockt durch Waldes Schweigen,
zu den blauen Lüften singt:
so auch sing'ich still mein Lied,
Wenn's mich zu den Sternen zieht.
All mein Hoffen, all mein Sehnen
Liegt im süssen Saitenlaut,
Die geheimsten meiner Tränen
Sind der Harfe anvertraut,
und sonst teilt kein liebend Herz
meine Freuden, meinen Schmerz.

The girl, alone
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Only flowers and righteous song
Make my days happy,
And in dreams, happiness comes back me,
When I close my tired eyes.
Only flowers and righteous song
Still my heart’s longing.
Quietly, the way a little bird taking off
From blossoming branches
And lured by the forest’s silence,
Sings to the blue skies:
Thus I’ll also sing my song,
Drawn to the stars.
All my hopes, all my desires
Lie on sweet strings,
The most secret of my tears
Are entrusted to my harp,
And no other loving heart shares
My joys, my pain.
