Jetzt wohl geht auf öden Wegen er, der mir im Herzen lebt, irrt in düster'n Waldgehegen, wo kein Vogel singt und schwebt, hört nur auf der Bäume Rauschen, auf des Bächleins Murmelflut, liebt nur, auf das Wild zu lauschen, das dort im Verborg'nen ruht. Mag ich hier am Fenster weilen und hinaus nach ihm nur späh'n, ach, ihn treibt's nicht, heim zu eilen, bis sein blut'ges Werk gescheh'n. Nur des Waldes Tier zu schlachten ist's, was Lust dem Wilden gibt, mag indes ein Herz verschmachten, das ihn treu wie keines liebt.

Solo ascolta lo stormire delle fronde e 'l gorgogliar de' rucelli, mentre ardito va le belve a depredar. Che 'l contempli dal verrone, che lo segua col pensier, ecco il veggo affaticarsi trionfar del mio poter. Truce gioja! e me quì sola abbandona ansante in cor, ne mai pensa a ricambiare un sì puro e santo amor.
