Die Rose
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Siehst du jene Rose blühen,
Shönste! so erkenne dich,
Siehst du Bienen zu ihr fligen,
Phyllis, so gedenk an mich.
Deine Blüte, lockt die Triebe
auf den Reichtum der Natur,
und der Jugend süße Liebe
raubt dir nichts und nährt sich nur.
Seh ich sie im Blütenreigen,
Holde, so ersehn ich dich,
Seh ich dich zur Rose neigen,
wünscht' ich, ach! beglück auch mich.
Eure Schönheit, eure Wonne
ist ein Wunder dieser Welt!
blühend unter gleicher Sonne
habt mein Leben ihr erhellt.

The rose
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Do you see that rose blooming,
most beautiful one? So see yourself.
Do you see the bees flying to it,
Phyllis? So think of me.
Your blossom draws the desires
to the riches of nature
and the love of sweet youth
robs nothing from you but nurtures you instead.
When I see them in the rows of blossoms,
beautiful one, so I desire you.
When I see you bent down to the rose,
I wish, oh, that I be happy too.
Your beauty, your splendor,
is a wonder of this world.
Blooming under the same sun,
you have brightened my life.
