Der kleinen Galline Klage‑Gesang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Es ist eine alte Geschicht!
Sie liegt ja längst am Tag!
S'ist wahrlich kein Gedicht,
Daß mich halt Niemand mag!
Es wird halt immer herber,
Ich matte ab am Körper!
An meiner bösen Gicht,--
Ist Schuld nur die Geschicht--
Mag auch die Sonne scheinen--
Mein altes Herz muß weinen,
Sagt bald der Welt Ade!
Mit seinem tiefem Weh!
Es ist ja meiner Treu
Die Geschicht mir immer neu--,
Daß just sie mir passieret,
Bricht mir das Herz entzweÿ!
Es ist ein schweres Leid
Im Herzen still ich's trag!--
Kein Mensch hört meine Klag'--
Daß man mich halt nicht mag!
Mein Herz in größter Ebbe!
Ist schon auf letzter Treppe,
Dem Schmerz es schon erlag--
Weil Niemand mehr es mag!
Hab' oft mich aufgeschwungen!
Nach Verlegern schwer gerungen!
Doch was ich einst gesungen--
Beÿ ihnen ist's verklungen!
So hol' ich meine Lieder!
Nehm' sie mit mir in's Grab.--
Scharr in die Erd' sie ein--
Sie soll'n vergeßen sein.--
Nur du mein guter Dickÿ!
Du weißt daß hab' kein Glück I!
Sagst du mir doch, du magst mi,
Weißt du doch auch: "I mag di!["]
Dir schütt' ich aus mein Herze!
Mit seinem Weh und Schmerze!
Mein Trost ist's nur, daß du sagst:
Daß du allein, ja du allein mich magst!

The Lament of the little Galline
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
It is an old story!
It has long come to light!
It's truly not a poem,
That simply no one likes me!
It becomes ever more bitter,
My body is becoming weary!
My evil gout, --
Is only the result of this story--
Even if the sun shines--
My old heart must weep,
It shall soon bid farewell to the world
With its deep sorrows!
It is, upon my faith,
The story ever new to me--
That it should happen precisely to me
Breaks my heart in two!
It is a heavy pain;
I carry it quietly in my heart!--
No mortal hears my lament--
That people simply don't like me!
My heart is at its lowest ebb!
It's on its last legs,
It has already succumbed to pain--
Because no one likes it anymore!
I often pulled myself up!
And laboured hard for publishers!
But that which I once sang--
Has faded away for them!
So I gather my songs!
Take them with me into the grave.--
I bury them in the earth--
They are to be forgotten.--
Only you, my good Dicky!
You know that I have no good fortune!
If you say that you like me,
You know as well: I like you!
To you I pour out my heart!
With its sorrow and pain!
My only comfort is that you say:
That you alone, yes, you alone like me!
