Auf Bergesgefilden, auf schweigenden Höh'n, Sind die Blumen, die wilden, so duftig und schön. Vor allem ist eine wie Blut und wie Schnee. Du weißt, wen ich meine, das Gretel vom See! Im Thal und im Schatten krankt mancher zur Stund; Mein Schatz auf den Matten ist frisch und gesund, Sagt lachend: "Grüß Gott!" und mit Lachen: "Ade!" 's ist keine so lieb, wie das Gretel vom See! Nie hat ihr das Morgen Gedanken gemacht, Sie weiß nichts von Sorgen. Sie schafft und sie lacht. Auf Schritt und auf Tritt, und wohin ich auch geh, Dein Lachen geht mit, Du mein Gretel vom See!
