Zu Vallendar am Rheine, Da steht ein kleines Haus, Dort schaut im Morgenscheine Mein Schatz zum Fenster 'raus. Sie hörte wohl mein Horn: Trara! Vom andern Ufer her, Und als sie mich im Kahne sah, Hielt sie's im Haus nicht mehr. Trara! Gretula! Dein treues Lieb ist da! Gar jung sind wir zwei beide Und frisch von Herz und Sinn; Ich steck' im Jägerkleide Und sie ist Winzerin. Das Leben ist nur Lust: Trara! Kein' Sorge macht uns Qual. Im ew'gen Lenz liegt vor uns da So Rhein als Berg und Thal. Trara! Gretula! Dein Arm mich fest umsah'!
