Nur eine Wachtel schlug im Feld, Da ich vorüberging, Nur eine leise Glocke rief, Die hoch im Turme hing. Verhallt die wirre Menschenlust, Der wunde Menschenschrei. So still der Wald! Es rauscht der Fluß Mit Murmelklang vorbei. Ein lautlos feuchter Uferwind Entfacht dein Blut mit Macht, Und die verlorne Liebe ruft Beweglich durch die Nacht.
