Lied einer deutschen Mutter
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Hinter dem Hitler her
H. Eisler sets stanzas 1, 4, 6

The song of a German mother
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
My son, I had given you the boots
and the brown shirt,
yet would I had but known what I know today,
I would have rather hanged myself.
My son, and I saw you march
here behind Hitler,
and did not know that those who left with him
never come back again.
I saw you carry a brown shirt,
I hadn't braced myself on the other hand.
For I did not know what I know today:
it was your funeral shroud.
