Es waren einmal zwei Engel, So schön wie die Engel sind, Der Eine ein Sohn der Hölle, Der Andre des Himmels Kind. Sie waren zu einander In heißer Lieb entbrannt, Und durften sich doch nicht grüßen Nicht herzen mit Mund und Hand; Denn aus den himmlischen Auen War er für immer verbannt, Von ferne nur durft' er schauen Sein glänzendes Vaterland. Da stieg in nächtlicher Stunde Herab zum höllischen Brand Die leuchtende Himmelstochter, Wo sie den Liebsten fand. Wohl ward sie von Gott verstoßen Aus der seligen Geister Kreis, Es weinten die Himmelsgespielen Um sie viel Thränen heiß. Doch mißte sie gern den Himmel Mit seiner sonnigen Pracht -- : Es stieg ja mit ihr die Liebe Hinab in der Hölle Nacht.
