Like roses, love [remains ever new]1, Although its blooming shall be over tomorrow, And we can remember none of those of yesterday. Love is full, like the calyx of a rose From which a hundred petals wrest themselves free And a hundred others still flame within it. Love is fiery like a rose-petal That has ignited its flames At the first morning beam of the rose of heaven. Love is heavenly, just as the vault of heaven is Exactly reflected in every dewdrop That the rose carries deep within it. Love is sweet, like the spicy scent of roses That, invisible, animates the warm breeze And intoxicates the honey-hungry bees. Yet love is short, too, like the day of a rose, Which ends more quickly than the sweet jugging Of the nightingale who weeps over it in the greenery.
