Schlaf', mein Kind in süsser Ruh'
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Greek (Ελληνικά)
Schlaf', mein Kind in süsser Ruh'
Träumend schließ die Aeuglein zu.
Adler, Wind und Sonnenschein,
Wiegt mein Kind in Schlummer ein.

Schlaf’, mein Kind! Schlaf’, mein Kind!

Adler flog zu seiner Brut,
Tief in’s Meer stieg Sonnenglut,
Doch drei Nächte blies der Wind,
Eilt zur Mutter dann geschwind.

Und sie fragt den wilden Gast:
„Sag’, wo du geweilet hast?
Treibst die Sterne vor dir her?
Wühltest auf das dunkle Meer?“

„Nicht die Wellen trieb ich auf,
Hemmte nicht der Sterne Lauf.
Sang zur Ruh’ das Kindelein,
Weigt’s in süssen Schlummer ein.“

Schlaf’, mein Kind! Schlaf’, mein Kind!
