Der arme Thoms

Language: German (Deutsch)

Thoms saß am hallenden See;
Ihm that es am Herzen so weh.
Da klagten der Nachtigall Töne:
So klagte der Nachhall am See.

Thoms saß am hallenden See;
Ihm tat es im Herzen so weh!
Da sangen ein Klaglied die Schwäne:
Antworteten Winde vom See.

Thoms saß am hallenden See;
O wehe mir, rief er, o weh!
Verblaßt ist die Wange zu Schnee,
Rief dumpf aus den Tiefen die See.

Ich folg', o hallender See!
O kühle das brennende Weh,
Ob lachend die Welt es verhöhne!
Rief leise verhallend der See.

Wer wankt so spät an dem wogenden See,
Und seufzet, o weh mir, o weh!
Wen suchest Du, einsame Schöne?
Such' Thoms in dem hallenden See!

Confirmed with Johannes Falk's auserlesene Werke alt und neu, erster Theil, Leipzig: F. A. Brockhaus, 1819. Appears in Seestücke, pages 87 - 88.
