You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of April 20, we are $4,600 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today and join dozens of other supporters in making this important renovation possible!

Der Sperling

Language: German (Deutsch)

   Du liebes, kleines Spätzlein du,
Dort auf dem dürren Ast,
Warum schreist du denn immerzu,--
[Ach!]1 weil du Hunger hast!--
   Der liebe Gott hat zugedeckt
Die Berge und das Thal,
Und unter weißen Schnee versteckt
Die Körnlein allzumal!
   Der liebe Gott doch an dich denkt,--
Komm Spätzlein, komm zu mir;
Mir hat er Brot genug geschenkt,
Davon geb ich auch dir!
   So komm nur her, Grauröcklein du,
Gott hat es dir geschickt;
Friß dich hier satt in guter Ruh,
Nur fleißig aufgepickt!
   Was klopfs't du an das Fensterlein?
Dich friert es sicherlich;
So komme hurtig doch herein
Und wärm' beim Ofen dich.
   Husch! husch! - da fliegt es wieder hin,
Wohl in die weite Welt,
Und flattert mit vergnügtem Sinn
Durch's weiße, kalte Feld.
   Der liebe Gott gibt alle Tag
Ihm gern sein Bischen Brot,
So daß es nicht verhungern mag
Auch in des Winters Noth!
