You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of April 20, we are $4,600 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today and join dozens of other supporters in making this important renovation possible!

Die Henne und ihr Küchlein

Language: German (Deutsch)

   Gluck! Gluck! Gluck! - die Henne ruft,
Küchlein sind nicht ferne;
Gluck! Gluck! Gluck! - da laufen sie,
Folgen [gar zu]1 gerne.

[ Gluck! Gluck! Gluck! - die Henne ruft,
Körnlein dort gefunden,
Und die Küchlein lassen sich
Schnell das Futter munden.]2

   Henne scharret immer zu
Körnlein aus der Erden,
Bis die [Küchlein allzumal]3
Ganz gesättigt werden.

   Gluck! Gluck! Gluck! - die Henne lockt
Zu dem Brunnen helle,
Und die Kühlein trinken all
Aus der frishen Quelle!

   Auf zum Himmel blicken sie,
Wenn geschluckt sie haben,
Danken wohl dem lieben Gott
Für die guten Gaben!

   Gluck! Gluck! Gluck! - die Henne ruft;
Küchlein kommt in Eile,
Seid ihr satt, so sollt ihr nun
Schlafen eine Weile.

   Wie sie alle sich so lieb
Um die Mutter strecken,
Ruhen warm und schlummern gut
Unter Flügeldecken.
