Eros va venir, son carquois sous l'aile, Car voici l'Avril. Il mettra bientôt, douce jouvencelle, Ton âme en péril. Ni tes pleurs d'enfant, ni ton gai sourire, Ni tes yeux d'azur Ne pourront, hélas ! sauver du martyre Ton cœur tendre et pur ! Rien ne peut, mignonne, arrêter la fièvre Qu'il porte avec lui. Quand son souffle ardent brûlera ta lèvre, Ton calme aura fui ! Cuirasse d'acier, bouclier d'argile Seront transpercés Par les traits cruels que son bras habile T'aura, seul, lancés ! Prends ta harpe d'or, vierge sans défense, Voici l'ennemi ! De tes doux accents romps le lourd silence Du bois endormi. Les rocs de granit, les nymphes de pierre Pourront s'attendrir : Mais Eros rira de ta plainte amère, Avril va venir !
