So arm ist keine Heide
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
So arm ist keine Heide
Und so verlassen ganz,
Es grüßt in ihrem Leide
Sie traut des Mondes Glanz.
Und scheut sich auch die Sonne,
Zu nahn der stummen Qual,
O sieh, wie lacht voll Wonne
Zur Nacht das öde Thal!
So arm ist und vergessen
Kein Herz auf Erden je,
Es will der Herr ermessen
Vom Himmel mild sein Weh.
Und weiß für's tiefste Grauen
Kein Mensch ein tröstend Wort,
Zur Wehmuth mag's zerthauen
Vor Gottes Huld sofort!

There is no heath so forlorn
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
There is no heath so forlorn
And so utterly forsaken;
In its suffering, the moon's radiance
Greets it lovingly.
And though the sun may be unwilling
To draw near to the mute agony,
Oh see how the desolate valley
Laughs full of bliss at night!
No heart on earth is ever
So forlorn and forgotten;
From Heaven the Lord wishes
Gently to measure its hurt.
And if for the deepest horror
No human knows a comforting word,
Before God's beneficence it may
Immediately melt to melancholy!
