Nachbarliebe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Unser Haus und Nachbars Haus
Stehn so eng beisammen,
Daß, wenn's in dem einem brennt,
Beide Häuser flammen.

Nachbars Fliederbäumchen sproßt
Durch des Zaunes Latten,
Unser alter Lindenbaum
Gibt dem Nachbar Schatten.

Tauben flattern hin und her
Und des Nachbars Kätzchen
Hat auf unserm Fensterbrett
Längst sein Ehrenplätzchen.

Ist es da ein Wunder, sprich,
Wenn ich Nachbars Liese,
Abends wenn es dämm'rig wird,
In die Arme schließe?

Daß wir übern Lattenzaun
Uns die Lippen reichen,
Bis sich Wang' an Wange preßt
Innig ohnegleichen ? . . .

Confirmed with Heimgarten. Eine Monatsschrift. XXIX. Jahrgang, erstes Heft, ed. by Peter Rosegger, Graz: Leykam, 1904, page 713.

See also Stixenstein's "Aus der Jugendzeit", from which the first stanza was probably taken.
