Su la lontana e solitaria vetta,
Che s'erge al cielo fra le nubi d'or,
Io vo' abbracciarti, o bionda giovinetta,
Bearmi in te d'un infinito amor!
Saperti mia, fra le mie braccia stretta
E darti tutto il cor!
Se separarci mai dovrà il destin,
La mia zampogna mesta echeggierà
Per monti e valli, lungo il mio cammin,
Querulo suon, che guida a te sarà,
Finchè non torni ancora a me
Il divino raggio di tua beltà!
Giù ne la valle, a la natìa chiesuola
Non odi tu de l'Ave il tintinnar?
Mentre il tramonto tinge di viola
Il piano e fa le rocce folgorar.
A me ti stringi! È muta ogni parola
E tutto dice: "Amar!"
