by Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769 - 1860)

An den heiligen Christ
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du lieber, heil'ger, frommer Christ,
der für uns Kinder kommen ist,
damit wir sollen weiß und rein
und rechte Kinder Gottes sein.

Du Licht, vom lieben Gott gesandt
in unser dunkles Erdenland,
Du Himmelslicht und Himmelsschein
damit wir sollen himmlisch sein.

Du lieber, frommer, heil'ger Christ,
weil heute Dein Geburtstag ist,
drum ist auf Erden weit und breit
bei allen Kindern frohe Zeit.

O segne mich, ich bin noch klein,
o mache mir das Herze rein,
o bade mir die Seele hell
in Deinem reinen Silberquell!

Daß ich wie Engel Gottes sei,
in Demut und in Liebe treu,
daß ich Dein bleibe für und für,
Du heil'ger Geist, das schenke mir!
