Sohn, hier hast du meinen Speer, Meinem Arm ist er zu schwer, Nimm dies Schwert und dies Geschoss, Tummle du forthin mein Ross. Dieses silbergraue Haar Deckt der Helm schon füfzig Jahr. Jedes Jahr hat eine Schlacht, Schwert und Streitaxt stumpf gemacht. Kaiser Rudolph hat dies Schwert, Axt und Kolbe mir verehrt, Denn ich blieb dem Kaiser hold Und verschmähte Heinrichs Sold. Deine Brüder fraß das Schwert, Sieben Knaben Deutschlands wert, Deine Mutter härmte sich, Stummt', erstarrte und verblich. Einsam bin ich nun und schwach, Aber Knabe, diese Schmach Wär mir härter siebenmal, Als der andern sieben Fall. Trau' und scheue nicht den Tod, Und vertraut auf Gott, So du fechtest ritterlich, Freut dein alter Vater sich.
