Wir sind durch Not und Freude

Language: German (Deutsch)

Wir sind durch Not und Freude
Gegangen Hand in Hand,
Vom Wandern ruhen wir [beide]1
Nun überm stillen Land.

Rings sich die Täler neigen,
Es dunkelt schon die Luft,
Zwei Lerchen nur noch steigen
Nachträumend in den Duft.

Tritt her, und laß sie schwirren
Bald ist es [Schlafenszeit]2,
Daß wir uns nicht verirren
In dieser Einsamkeit.

O weiter, stiller Friede!
So tief im Abendrot,
Wie sind wir wandermüde --
Ist [das]3 etwa der Tod? --

In 't avondrood

Language: Dutch (Nederlands) after the German (Deutsch)

Wij gingen door pijn en vreugde,
tezamen, hand in hand:
nu rusten wij van 't zwerven
over het stille land.

Rondom hellen valleien,
en duister wordt de lucht,
twee leeuweriken klimmen,
in droom en waas gehuld.

Blijf hier, laat ze maar fladderen,
dra is het slapenstijd.
Wij willen niet verdwalen
in deze eenzaamheid;

O wijdse, stille vrede!
zo diep in 't avondrood,
Hoe moe zijn wij van 't zwerven -
Is dit misschien de dood?
