David, der Barde, fühlt nahen den Tod,
bleich sind die Wangen, die einstmals so rot.
Suchend nur irret umher noch sein Blick,
bis auf der Harfe er ruhet voll Glück.
"Gebt mir die Harfe! Mit süßem Laut
Töne noch einmal, Gefährtin taut!
Wenn's auch den Händen an Kraft gebricht,
für ihren Meister die Harfe spricht."
